Latest on Jones’ Playing Status Friday, Dec. 9
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted Friday that Falcons head coach Dan Quinn placed the questionable tag on Jones. Andrew Hirsh of the team’s official website had reported the wideout missed Thursday’s practice with turf toe, but he took part in thewalkthrough preparations.
Kelsey Conway of the team’s official website added the top target will be a game-time decision, with the staff making a determination after seeing him warm up Sunday.
After the Falcons made him the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, Jones’ talent has rarely been in question. When he’s on the field, he’s one of the best wide receivers in the league. However, staying on the field has been a problem for the 27-year-old star.
Only twice in five years has Jones played a full season. During his time in the NFL, he has missed a combined 15 games. Even in 2015when he had his best season and played all 16 gameshe dealt with a hamstring issue.
Despite that, Jones finished with league highs in receptions (136) and receiving yards (1,871) while also catching eight touchdowns.
The Falcons made signing Mohamed Sanu, who Ledbetter pointed out will miss Sunday’s game, a priority in the offseason, but his arrival didn’t address their longstanding need to find a strong No. 2 wideout behind Jones. Beyond his 2014 seasonwhen A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert and Marvin Jones were all limited by injurySanu struggled to find consistency with the Cincinnati Bengals.
If Jones joins Sanu on the sideline Sunday, recent breakout sensationTaylor Gabriel could be in for a high-volume role against the Rams.Justin Hardy,Aldrick Robinson andEric Weems would entertainment news weather also see more work as part of the makeshift receiver group.
